Product Description
SALT10
The requirements of ASTM standard E2187 and ISO 12863 for measuring the ignition propensity of cigarettes under defined conditions is essential to establishing the ability of cigarettes to meet fire standard compliance (FSC) regulations in a number of countries.
The Cerulean SALT10 presents a significant advance in the ability of laboratories to perform the test in a semi automated manner that removes the human element of the test for proved reproducibly and repeatability along with a significant increase in productivity for the test laboratory.

The SALT 10 combines advanced camera detection technology with established puff engine and mechatronic technology to provide a simple to use device. Loading of samples and lighting remains a manual process but thereafter automated routines take over which determine the percentage of full length burns, residual burn length and burn times. The use of advanced camera technology versus infrared sensor technology enables a much richer data set to be captured, as well as the ability to capture a photographic record of termination for each cigarette tested.
As to be expected from a computer controlled process all data is contained within an ODBC compliant database with easy to use tools allowing export to an external database or LIMS system. An optional enhancement is available through the purchase of a GxP equipment validation package and a security package designed to comply with FDA 21 CFR part 11 requirements.
High throughput is achieved by the use of 10 test boxes that can be operated simultaneously by a single operator. The operation is so simple that two SALT10 machines can be operated simultaneously by a single operator. High repeatability is achieved through the precise control of lighting and determination and the elimination of subjective judgments concerning burn lengths.
